Five Ways to Bring Indigenous Art into Workplace Design

In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in Indigenous artwork being incorporated into various aspects of Australian life. From everyday products to infrastructure and building projects, the country is exploring new ways to honor and integrate the rich Indigenous culture into contemporary society.

Incorporating Indigenous knowledge and culture in workplace design projects creates respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and strong connections to the land. We have collaborated with numerous clients to create custom office furniture that bring Indigenous culture into the workplace.

1. Soft Furnishing Upholstery

Mixing Indigenous design with contemporary fabric is one of the most popular ways to weave references to Indigenous culture into a workspace. Winya works with a number of renowned Indigenous Artists, who can work with interior design firm to translate their artwork into unique fabrics for bespoke lounges, ottomans, task chairs and visitor chairs.

2. Wood Burning

Add a special touch to your office furniture with pyrography, also known as wood burning – a type of free handed art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks. In partnership with young artists from the Wiradjuri Country, Winya can bring Indigenous artwork live using pyrography to customize your choice of wooden or acrylic furnishing products, such as boardroom tables, desks, soft seating frames and tabletops.

3. Decoration

Get creative and use cushions with vibrant colours to brighten up your workspace. Explore our collection of more than 150 Indigenous designs and our team can assist you to choose the right one that complement your choice of colour scheme.

4. Communication Board

Winya’s Yarn Board and Communicate Glassboard are excellent tools for collaborative brainstorming. Yarn Board boasts a sleek curved glass design with individual QR codes that allow users to learn more about the artist. Communicate Glassboard can be linked together and used as a room divider. It has magnetic glass on one side in white or blue, and a pinnable fabric on the other side.

5. Workstation Divider Screen

Create a semi-enclosed workspace and protect your employee’s privacy with our custom design divider screen. Add an artistic touch to the divider screen with your choice of Indigenous artwork.
