At Winya, we believe real change happens when people have the tools to build their own future. The SkillBuild Program is our commitment to rehabilitation, run in collaboration with Correctional Facilities Australia wide.
By giving incarcerated individuals skills, training and hands-on experience in furniture manufacturing, we provide a practical bridge from custody back into the community. This is about providing a sense of purpose and a clear route toward employment after release. Our goal is to help break the cycle of reoffending by focusing on long-term stability.
Finding a steady job is often the biggest hurdle for someone leaving the justice system. Without a solid work history or recognised skills, the risk of falling back into old patterns is high.
The SkillBuild Program addresses this by:
Meeting Industry Demand: Our program gives participants training to be eligible for roles in Australia’s manufacturing and carpentry sectors where skilled workers are needed.
Building Transferable Skills: The technical abilities learned here apply to construction, logistics, and production, providing certified certificates of training.
Developing A Professional Mindset: Our program provides experience in workplace discipline, teamwork, and the reliability needed to succeed in any job.
While this program is open to everyone, we are particularly focused on supporting Indigenous Australians who are disproportionately affected by the legal system. We work to ensure the initiative is inclusive, culturally aware, and geared toward breaking down systemic barriers
Working inside correctional facility workshops, participants manufacture components for Winya’s commercial furniture range. This is high-quality, real-world production under professional supervision.
The catalogue is both a design resource and a social impact initiative, making every specification a meaningful contribution.
We help facilitate opportunities for participants to work toward formal qualifications through providers like TAFEincluding Certificate II Engineering, Certificate III Engineering, Certificate II Construction.
We use our connections across the manufacturing and furniture sectors to bridge the gap between graduates and potential employers.
By seeing the tangible results of their work, participants build the self-worth and confidence needed to re-enter the workforce.
We view this program as a vital social investment. By focusing on skill-building rather than just time served, we help turn a period of incarceration into a period of preparation. At Winya, we are not just making furniture. We are helping people create a fresh start.
