Charging-up A Greener Future

Have you ever wondered what to do with the pile of chargers accumulated from every device you’ve bought? According to the 2020 Global E-Wate Monitor, 54,000 metric tons of charges are wasted each year globally, and that’s only about 0.1 percent of the total 53.6 million metric tons of e-waste generated annually.

Universal Charger – Less Waste, More Power

To tackle this challenge, EU announced a mandate last month that all small and medium-sized portable devices must be equipped with a USB-C charging port by the autumn of 2024. Although this mandate carries no weight outside of Europe, it’s likely that its impact will still be felt globally.

The concept of USB-C was submitted in 2012 and its specs was finalised in 2014. Unlike other types of charging port, USB-C has asymmetrical connector with rounded ends, which means there is no such thing as “right-side up”. The newest generation of chargers with USB-C charging port are believed to be more reliable, powerful and faster.

Future-Proof Power Access

The idea of a single cable for every product you carry has been a dream of technology advocates, and USB-C has been described as “the port of the future” for years. Although not every device and peripherals on the market has this connector yet, the shift to USB-C as an industry standard is happening.

Nowadays, providing easy access to power is a must-have for many places such as lobbies, airports and visitor lounges. Traditional in-desk power options have been available for decades. In recent years, a shift of focus on soft seating installations for chairs and lounge furniture has created solutions for dynamic spaces. Comfortable seating equipped with USB charging ports is ideal for common areas where people can relax or work comfortably while charging their devices. To future-proof the design of power access points, it is important to adapt to the change in power charging requirements.

Our new lounge collection comes with a TUF-PD Twin USB Fast Charging socket that incorporates a USB-C port and a world-first reversible A connector port. It can charge up mobile devices at optimum speeds – only ten minutes for a low battery boost and charge up to 20% of battery life for most newer mobile phones. For devices that still require USB-A charging port, the reversible A connector allows a quick single-attempt connection where the USB connector can be inserted both ways.
